Malted milk needs to be used more. It’s a wonderful taste. I grew up with Carnation malted milk in my house. My dad was always making milkshakes with it and to this day, I am still a vanilla malted milkshake girl. My Grandpa Bill and I used to drink them on the stoop outside his house in Saratoga, WY. Well, not actually a stoop, but the stairs left behind when the trailer was moved off his property. That’s another story for another day. I spent a summer in Saratoga “working” but really the job was an excuse to hang with him, drinking milkshakes and fishing.

So what else do you do with malted milk, besides make a milkshake or an ice cream? How about a cookie? Here is a recipe doing just that.

Use a good quality milk chocolate chip, it just adds the creaminess texture that the malted milk brings to the cookie!

Chocolate Chip Malted Milk Cookies

3 cups all purpose flour (I use King Arthur)
3/4 cup malted milk powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup light brown sugar, packed
1 cup unsalted butter, softened
2 eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
2 tablespoons sweetened condensed milk
2 cups milk chocolate chips (I use Guittard, you can purchase at Central Market)

Preheat the oven to 350 F.
Whisk together the flour, malted milk powder, baking soda and salt. Set aside.
Cream the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy.
Add eggs, vanilla and sweetened condensed milk and beat until eggs are incorporated.
Stir in flour and chocolate chips just until combined. Do not overmix.

I usually place my dough in the fridge for about 30 minutes at this point to let the dough set up a little.

Scoop dough onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
Bake about 10 minutes, until edges are golden. I prefer my cookies a little underdone. So if you like a crispier cookie, bake about 2 minutes more.
Let cool and transfer to a rack.

Enjoy!
xoxo
